2020, a year that everyone wants to forget. This year has been crazy to say the least. Boston saw stars like Mookie Betts and Tom Brady leave to other organizations, so it’s fitting that to end the year Zdeno Chara announced he will be parting ways with the Boston Bruins and inked a contract with the Washington Capitals. Many are confused, angered and just plain upset with the decision the Bruins made. Zee signed a one year deal, worth less than 800k, so rumors speculate Chara didn’t want to accept a lesser role, possibly dropping to the 3rd pair of D. Whatever the case may be, what is known is that Washington was deemed the best fit for the grizzled 43 year old.
What is done is done, and that will not take away the past 14 seasons Zee has patrolled the blue line in Boston with grit, while being a fearless leader. Over the 14 seasons in Boston, Zee scored 148 goals, 333 assists, and racked up 1,055 pim . The 6’9” blue liner collected a Norris trophy, a Stanley Cup and several all-star appearances while in the Black and Gold. This Boston Bruin legend also reached 1,500 career games played, but even more impressively, 1,000 of them were while wearing the spoked B. on and off the ice he showed love to his teammates, the organization, fans and community and Boston loved Zee just as much as he loved us. It is only a matter of time before the number, 33 is hanging in the rafters of the Garden. This is “Quick Shifts” farewell to our captain and forever Bruin.
Thank You, Zdeno Chara.
